Sligo lead the way as Leitrim and Longford share the spoils

Sligo lead the way in Division 3B of the Allianz Hurling League following a three-goal win over Warwickshire on Saturday, while Leitrim and Longford shared the spoils in Ballinamore this afternoon.

Those goals proved to be the difference as Sligo claimed a 3-14 to 0-14 victory over Warwickshire at Pairc na hEireann in Birmingham.

It was the Connacht side's first triumph in competitive action since March 2011 when they beat Monaghan in the Allianz League.

Sligo led by 1-10 to 0-8 at half-time, with Gary Waldron netting their goal in the 22nd minute.

The visitors moved into a double scores lead inside three minutes of the restart with a goal from Ciaran Brennan.

Warwickshire kept in touch thanks to Offaly native Conor Robbins who finished with nine points, six of which came from frees.

But Sligo were not to be denied despite hitting 18 wides, as a late Kevin Gilmartin goal powered them to a nine-point success.

Meanwhile, Eoin Donnellan snatched a late equaliser for Longford as they shared the spoils with Leitrim on a 0-16 to 1-13 scoreline at Ballinamore.

Clement Cunniffe bagged most of the Leitrim scores, with Thomas Davis, Dublin clubman Zak Moradai netting the hosts' goal.

Leitrim looked on course for victory but Michael Dolan conceded a late free which Donnellan converted to bring the sides level for the final time.
