Longford 3-7 Galway 3-11
Second half goals from Eoin Concannon and Paul Conroy helped Galway see off struggling Longford at Pearse Park.
The Tribesmen are third in the Division 2 table after registering their second win of the Allianz League campaign, which was launched by Michael Meehan’s 11th-minute goal.
The visitors played into the wind in the first half, but managed to lead 1-6 to 1-5 at half-time with Meehan and Donal McElligott swapping goals.
Centre forward McElligott was the last link in a fine passing move that led to his 17th minute goal which brought Glenn Ryan's charges level at 1-3 apiece. Galway moved back in front through Niall Coleman and free-taker Michael Martin.
Colm Smith and McElligott both pointed just before the break to make it a one-point game, only for Meehan and Concannon to reply within 45 seconds of the restart.
Two quick-fire goals from Sean McCormack, who top-scored with 2-4, gave Longford a huge boost and pushed them 3-5 to 1-8 ahead.
McCormack was played in by David Barden for the first in the 38th minute and two minutes later he dispossessed Micheal Boyle to knock home his second major. A McElligott point soon put the division's bottom side four points in front.
Concannon’s goal from a Michael Martin centre steadied Galway, with Longford goalkeeper Damien Sheridan and Michael Quinn badly caught out, and a Niall Coleman point brought them level on the hour mark.
McCormack and Martin then exchanged points as Galway's stronger bench began to have an impact in the closing stages.
The defining moment came when a Martin through ball put the Longford defence under pressure and Conroy fisted home the match-winning goal.
Defender Gary Sice tagged on a late point as Galway added momentum to their promotion push, leaving Longford pointless after the opening four rounds of the league.
