Former captain Kavanagh recalled to Galway squad
Galway hurling manager Anthony Cunningham has made some notable additions to his squad ahead of the new inter-county season.
Former team captain Shane Kavanagh is now part of the Tribesmen's extended 2013 panel, along with Liam Mellows forward Aonghus Callanan who is back on home soil after a year travelling in Australia.
Kavanagh was dropped for Cunningham's first season in charge, during which Galway memorably won the Leinster SHC title and reached the All-Ireland final.
But the Kinvara clubman, who was a key defender when the county won the Allianz League in 2010, is now back in contention.
Kavanagh's club-mate, goalkeeper Colm Callanan, is also set to see action in the Walsh Cup this month as regular net minder James Skehill is due to miss most of this spring's league campaign after undergoing shoulder surgery.
Galway's first competitive game of the new season is away to either Carlow or Antrim in the Walsh Cup on Sunday, January 27.
Cunningham's 2012 squad are currently enjoying a holiday in Dubai before the season gets underway.
