Draw made for All-Ireland SHC Qualifiers

The draw for the preliminary round and first round of the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship qualifiers was made tonight at Croke Park by GAA President Liam O'Neill.

Wexford and Westmeath, who were both knocked out of the Leinster Championship in the past 24 hours, will face each other in the preliminary phase with Wexford having home advantage.

Westmeath scored four goals against Galway in Mullingar this afternoon but still finished on the wrong side of the result. Meanwhile, Wexford were beaten 2-12 to 1-13 by Offaly in last night's televised game.

The other preliminary round tie is a clash between Limerick, who were losers to Tipperary last weekend, and Laois. The midlanders are hoping to bounce back from a heavy 3-23 to 1-7 loss to Dublin.

The winners of the Limerick v Laois fixture will qualify to face reigning Ulster champions Antrim. The other round 1 encounter will see Wexford or Westmeath hosting another Leinster side, Carlow.

The winners of the first round matches will advance to round 3 of the qualifiers to meet teams who come through the second phase, which will involve the beaten Leinster and Munster semi-finalists.
