Sheridan poised to return for Meath

The Meath footballers have been given a timely boost with the news that full-forward Joe Sheridan is set to return to the Royals panel.

It is understood that efforts to coax Sheridan home from a short stint in Boston have proven successful, and he could be their target man for the Leinster Championship opener against Wicklow on May 27.

It was barely six weeks ago that Sheridan released a statement confirming his emigration to America to take up a construction job.

"After a lot of thought I have decided to emigrate to take up an opportunity I simply couldn't refuse. I finalised my decision to travel on Friday last," he said.

"I would like to thank the Meath senior football management and the Meath County Board who worked hard to secure employment for me, but I feel that this opportunity abroad is something I need to do.

"I would like to wish my team-mates, club and county, the very best for 2012."

But it seems that the Seneschalstown clubman has had a change of heart and he is reportedly due to link up with Seamus McEnaney's side before the end of the week.

Getting Sheridan back on board is quite a coup for McEnaney and his management team, who recently survived an attempt to oust them after the Royals were relegated to Allianz League Division 3.

The 27-year-old former All-Star nominee has been a key cog in the Meath attack in recent seasons, having made his Championship bow against Laois back in 2004.
