The hurlers of Tyrone, Monaghan and Fingal all recorded wins in the opening round of Allianz League Division 3A today.

At Healy Park, the Red Hands bagged goals through Sean Og Grogan, Shea McKiver and Rory O'Neill in their 3-18 to 2-9 defeat of Sligo.

Tyrone led by 2-11 to 0-5 at half-time, and although Keith Raymond and Damien Burke netted for Sligo, Tyrone held out for victory.

Home advantage also favoured Monaghan in their 1-18 to 1-11 triumph over Donegal at Clones.

Michael McHugh claimed eight points for the hosts, with Sean Leonard (1-2) netting their goal.

Monaghan led by 1-11 to 1-3 at the interval, with Lee Henderson netting the visitors' goal.

Not much separated the sides in the closing 35 minutes, with McHugh keeping the hosts ticking over.

Niall Campbell, with seven points (six frees), was Donegal’s top scorer.

At Darver this afternoon, Dublin side Fingal had a 1-13 to 0-12 success over Louth.

Louth led by 0-06 to 0-05 at half-time, but Fingal took control in the closing 35 minutes.

Willie Burke's charges were beating the Wee County side for the second time in back-to-back games after a Kehoe Shield triumph earlier this month.
