LATTON (Monaghan) 0-11 BURREN (Down) 1-10

Burren booked their place in next weekend’s AIB Ulster Club SFC final with a 1-10 to 0-11 defeat of Latton at the Athletic Grounds.

Shay McArdle’s first half goal helped the Down champions hit the front and they pushed on after the break, with Conal McGovern scoring three points during a purple patch.

Latton from Monaghan had some strong individual performances from Owen Lennon, Owen Duffy and Hugh McElroy, but they were let down by poor finishing particularly in the opening half hour.

Burren held firm despite having both Ciaran McGovern and Eoin McCartan sent-off, the latter picking up a straight red card for a high tackle.

He will miss the provincial decider against reigning All-Ireland champions Crossmaglen, which is repeat of last year’s Ulster semi-final - Cross won that game on a 1-11 to 2-7 scoreline.

Today McArdle’s neat finish into the top corner proved crucial for Burren, who took a 1-4 to 0-6 interval lead with Latton hitting seven first half wides.

The Mournemen dominated for most of the second period, hitting six of the next seven points.

Latton kept in contention as Duffy led their comeback, but Shane Coyle’s missed goal chance summed up their day.
