Minchin to start for Carlow

Carlow manager Luke Dempsey has made one enforced change to his team for tomorrow's All-Ireland SFC second round qualifier against Antrim.

With Sean Gannon having left the panel to travel to the Far East and America, his place at full-forward has been taken by Old Leighlin clubman Willie Minchin.

Tomorrow's tie has a 3pm start at Casement Park. The Barrowsiders are looking to bounce back from their 4-12 to 0-10 Leinster semi-final defeat to Wexford two weeks ago.

Alan Curran, who was used as a substitute against Wexford, is now on a one-year career break abroad, while JJ Smith is still seeing out a four-month ban.

Cormac Mullins was sprung from the bench and kicked two consolation points in the Wexford game, but has to settle for a substitute's role again.

Carlow last won a qualifier fixture back in 2005 when they beat Offaly, and captain Shane Redmond is keen to put that poor record to bed.

"We're full of confidence because we know we're not a bad team after just one disappointing result, and now it's a case of showing what we've learned at Casement Park," he told the Carlow People.

"Antrim are not a bad side and will be hoping to use the home venue to their advantage…it's not going to easy going up there, but we've learned and have a point to prove so hopefully we can keep the flags flying around the county.

"A win is very important in terms of the development of this team. We need to keep the momentum going. It's been a long time since Carlow have played into July."
