Eight debutants in Cavan team

The Cavan team to face Donegal in Sunday's Ulster SFC quarter-final at Kingspan Breffni Park (throw-in 3.30pm) has a fresh look to it.

Joint managers Val Andrews and Terry Reilly have included eight Championship newcomers in the starting line-up, with five of them lining out in defence.

Cavan's new-look rearguard, marshalled by experienced goalkeeper James Reilly, includes SFC debutants James McEnroe, Patrick Carroll, Dane O'Dowd, Niall Murray and Damien Reilly.

Half-forwards Gearóid McKiernan and Fergal Flanagan, along with corner forward Niall McDermott, are the other new faces at this level.

Murray, McKiernan, McDermott and Flanagan were part of the Cavan side that won the Ulster Under-21 title and reached the All-Ireland Under-21 final this year.

The versatile Padraic O'Reilly has been struggling with knee and hamstring injuries and misses out, while Ronan Flanagan (groin) is another notable absentee from the selection.

The winners of Sunday's game will advance to a provincial semi-final against reigning champions Tyrone in Clones on Sunday, June 26.

CAVAN (SFC v Donegal): James Reilly; James McEnroe, Patrick Carroll, Dane O'Dowd; Niall Murray, John McCutcheon, Damien Reilly; Ray Cullivan, David Givney; Gearoid McKiernan, Micheal Lyng, Fergal Flanagan; Niall McDermott, Eugene Keating, Seanie Johnston (capt).
