The versatile Bryan Cullen has been selected to captain the Dublin senior footballers for their 2011 Championship campaign.

Cullen, who has played in defence and attack for the Dubs, has prior experience of the captaincy. He lifted the Delaney Cup when Dublin were crowned Leinster SFC champions back in 2006, deputising for the injured Colin Moran.

With Paul Griffin nominated as this year's vice-captain, Dublin manager Pat Gilroy said: "Bryan's just a very calm individual. Paul was a great captain and he will be a great vice-captain for him as well.

"The two of them are very calm and they lead by example. They do the things that you want done."

The Dubs are preparing to face Laois in a Leinster SFC quarter-final tie at Croke Park on Sunday week. Gilroy's men enjoyed a 4-14 to 1-15 challenge match win over Monaghan at Parnell Park last Friday, during which Bernard Brogan (1-04) and Diarmuid Connolly (2-01) led the scoring.

Midfield duo Ross McConnell and Eamonn Fennell, who both recently returned from hip injuries, were paired together in the second half of the Monaghan game.

McConnell's last competitive outing for the Dubs was in last August's All-Ireland SFC semi-final loss to Cork. He topped up his match fitness with a 60-minute runout for St. Oliver Plunkett's/Eoghan Ruadh in a club fixture last Saturday.
