Wins for London and Monaghan in Nicky Rackard Cup
London and Monaghan claimed victories in the Nicky Rackard Cup today.
The Exiles were goal hungry in their 6-20 to 1-10 win over Louth at Dowdallshill in Dundalk. The visitors crashed home four first half goals which provided the bedrock for this victory.
Paddy Kelly's side battled bravely and pulled back a goal on the restart from substitute Diarmuid O'Sullivan.
Gerard Smyth (0-04) also performed strongly for the hosts, with Brian Corcoran (0-02), Diarmuid Murphy, Donagh O'Sullivan, Derek Horan and David Dunne (0-01 each) claiming the other Louth scores.
Monaghan staged a strong second half display to earn a 1-17 to 2-12 triumph over Fingal at Swords.
The Farney County outfit earned a semi-final spot thanks to a resilient display which saw them banish memories of their 17-point league defeat to Fingal last February.
Michael McHugh grabbed 1-13 for the visitors, who trailed by 2-09 to 1-07 at half-time. Davy Byrne netted two first half goals for Fingal.
McHugh kept Monaghan in touch on the restart, with Fingal held scoreless for a 19-minute spell in the second half, as McHugh, Trevor Hillard, Stephen Lambe and Éanna Mac Suibhne turned in strong displays.
