Martin let go by Westmeath
Kevin Martin has been axed as manager of the Westmeath senior hurlers.
Martin, who took over the position last year, helped guide the team to their third Christy Ring Cup title with a win over Kerry at Croke Park last summer.
It is understood that members of the Westmeath County Board met with Martin last night in Tullamore where he was relieved of his duties.
Westmeath have already been relegated to Division 3 of the Allianz Hurling League for next year. Martin's side have suffered six straight defeats in Division 2 to date.
The Lake County outfit are due to face Down in their final league match next Sunday at Cusack Park in Mullingar.
A special meeting of the Westmeath Hurling Board is due to take place tomorrow night to begin the process of appointing a new manager.
