Down overcome Cork disappointment to beat Monaghan

Down put Monaghan away in the second half at Newry tonight as they bounced back from losing to Cork.

Benny Coulter showed some nice touches as the Mourne men pulled into an early lead, but points from Conor McManus and Paul Finlay closed the gap to 0-08 to 0-06 by half-time.

Monaghan struggled in the second half though, and a 55th minute penalty from Martin Clarke set Down well on the way to their third Division 1 win.
