GAA cancel fixtures due to inclement weather

This weekend's entire first round of Dr. McKenna Cup fixtures will not take place due to frozen pitches, while there are some other changes to GAA fixtures today.

The Ulster Council yesterday confirmed that all games in the opening round of the McKenna Cup were postponed due to the bad weather. The ties have been rescheduled for January 22 and 23.

Last night's games involving Fermanagh and UUJ, Cavan and Queen's University and Down and St. Mary's Belfast were all postponed.

Today's matches, which paired Tyrone with Donegal, Derry with Monaghan and Armagh with Antrim, have also fallen victim of the current cold snap.

Meanwhile, all bar two of today's games in the opening round of the O'Byrne Cup competition will go ahead as scheduled.

The game involving Offaly and DCU at Ferbane and the Meath-UCD clash at Navan are both off due to unplayable pitches.

The Offaly v DCU tie was initially fixed for O'Connor Park in Tullamore but was moved to Ferbane on Saturday afternoon due to the condition of the playing surface.

Westmeath's game against Dublin is now scheduled for St. Loman's GAA Club, Lakepoint Park in Mullingar instead of Cusack Park in Mullingar.

Elsewhere, Laois host Wicklow at O'Moore Park in Portlaoise, AIT travel to Drogheda to face Louth, Meath host UCD at Pairc Tailteann, Kildare take on Longford at Newbridge, Carlow host KIlkenny and Wexford face DIT at Enniscorthy.

Also in Leinster, the Kehoe Cup senior hurling competition gets underway today with Trinity College taking on Fingal at Portmarnock.

In Munster, the McGrath Cup ties involving Cork and Waterford IT, Kerry and IT Tralee, Tipperary and UL and Clare and UCC all take place.

In Connacht, the FBD League clash between Leitrim and Mayo will now take place in Ballyhaunis instead of Ballinamore.

Elsewhere in that competition, NUI Galway take on IT Sligo at Dangan, Sligo host Galway at Enniscrone and Roscommon face GMIT at Ballyforan.

All games across all competitions have 2pm starts.
