Tipperary's Lar Corbett and Bernard Brogan of Dublin have been announced as the 2010 Opel GPA Players of the Year in hurling and football respectively at the Gaelic Players' Association Awards at the Citywest Hotel tonight.
The duo claimed the highly-coveted personal accolades following a vote by the GPA membership after being shortlisted for the awards. It caps off an awards double for Corbett and Brogan, who were crowned the Vodafone GAA Players of the Year last month.
Due to their outstanding performances throughout the GAA season, both players will receive a brand new Opel Astra worth approximately €25,000.
Commenting on the announcement, Dessie Farrell, Chief Executive of the Gaelic Players' Association, said: "While Championship success is totally dependent on team effort, there is no doubt that the individual performances of Lar Corbett and Bernard Brogan stood out this year and those displays have been acknowledged by their fellow players who have voted them as the Opel GPA Players of the Year.
"Congratulations to both players, it is a wonderful achievement for them individually although I know they will be quick to point out the support of their team-mates.
"Thanks once again to the players who voted, to our selection committees and to Opel for their sponsorship of these much coveted Awards."
Meanwhile, Westmeath's Joe Clarke was announced as the GPA Christy Ring Cup Hurler of the Year, Paul McCormack of Armagh was honoured as the Nicky Rackard Cup Hurler of the Year, and Longford's Garrett Ghee scooped the Lory Meagher Cup Hurler of the Year gong.
