Mick O'Dwyer has been nominated for the Mayo senior football manager's job, although there is opposition to a manager from 'outside the county' being appointed to the role.

The deadline for nominations for John O'Mahony's successor passed last Friday, and at a meeting of the Mayo County Executive on Monday it was revealed that O'Dwyer, John Maughan, who managed Mayo twice in the past, and ex-county players James Horan, Anthony McGarry and Denis Kearney are the five managerial candidates.
