Camogie wins for Wexford, Cork and Tipperary

All eyes will be on the semi-final draw tomorrow after the conclusion of the round-robin phase of the Gala All-Ireland senior camogie championship today.

Kilkenny, Wexford, Galway and Cork go into the hat, giving camogie followers the prospect of two mouth-watering pairings in a fortnight.

Wexford blitzed a previously unbeaten Kilkenny outfit in the first half to lead by 2-7 to 0-2 at half time, thanks to two Evelyn Quigley goals.

Michelle Quilty’s accuracy from frees improved matters for Kilkenny but they had too much leeway to make up and lost 2-10 to 0-10.

Cork made light work of a Clare team that had been very competitive in the championship until this tie, with the Leesiders prevailing 2-20 to 0-8.

The champions appear to be hitting their stride at the right time and they led by 1-14 to 0-2 at half time, Julia White providing the goal.

Young prospect, Joanne Casey followed up her good form in last week’s defeat of Wexford with a goal three minutes into the second half and though Claire McMahon and Fiona Lafferty did their best, Clare never looked like rattling Cork.

It was one-way traffic in the third tie as Tipperary steamrollered Dublin 5-21 to 0-6. Claire Grogan struck for two goals, while Mairead Luttrell, Noreen Flanagan and Joanne Ryan also raised green flags.
