Dubs face Tipperary after losing Leinster title

Dublin, who lost their Leinster crown yesterday at Croke Park, will have home advantage against Tipperary in the second round of the All-Ireland SFC qualifiers.

Pat Gilroy's men will be hoping to bounce back from conceding five goals to arch rivals Meath, while Tipperary showed their battling qualities when defeating Laois by a single point yesterday afternoon.

The game, likely to be played at Parnell Park, will be the Dubs' first qualifier match since August 2004. Tipperary beat Louth in the qualifiers last year before losing to Sligo after extra-time.

The second round draw was made by GAA President Christy Cooney and former Dublin footballer Collie Moran on TV3's 'Ireland AM' programme this morning.

The match of the round is the Ulster derby between Armagh and Fermanagh. The Orchard men got their Championship challenge back on track on Saturday with a comfortable win over Donegal, while the Ernesiders were well beaten by Monaghan in yesterday's Ulster semi-final.

Armagh also drew Ulster opposition in the opening round of last year's qualifiers, when Monaghan handed them an extra-time defeat. Fermanagh lost to Wicklow at that stage twelve months ago but home advantage will give them an added boost in two weeks' time.

Cork v Cavan is another juicy pairing, the recently dethroned Munster champions coming up against a Cavan team boasting Seanie Johnston, their star man in Saturday's rousing comeback against Wicklow.

Longford's reward for their standout first round victory over Mayo is a trip to highly-rated Down, while Derry, who beat Carlow without Paddy Bradley, will be on the road again to face beaten Leinster semi-finalists Westmeath.

Having outlasted Clare in Tullamore, Offaly will have home advantage against Waterford who lost to Limerick in their recent Munster semi-final.

Interestingly, the Deise beat Clare 1-10 to 0-9 in the opening round of the Munster Championship. Offaly's victory over the Banner men on Saturday was by three points - 2-18 to 1-18.

The match-ups in the two other second round games are yet to be confirmed, with replays to take place next weekend between Kildare and Antrim (first round qualifier) and Galway and Sligo (Connacht semi-final).

The winners of the Kildare v Antrim replay will entertain beaten Connacht semi-finalists Leitrim, while the losers of the second Galway v Sligo encounter will be on home turf for the visit of a Wexford side that easily dismantled London yesterday.

The ties will be played over the weekend of July 10-11, with the venues and throw-in times to be confirmed.
