Leitrim, Donegal and Longford win Lory Meagher openers
Lory Meagher Cup
Cavan 1-13 Leitrim 2-13 / Longford 5-12 South Down 1-13 / Donegal 0-21 Warwickshire 2-9
Cavan suffered a home defeat to Leitrim at Breffni Park this afternoon in their opening game of the Lory Meagher Cup, going under by 2-13 to 1-13.
The result gives Leitrim a home semi-final draw in two weeks while Cavan will have another shot against Fermanagh next weekend.
The sides were level 1-5 apiece at the break after Sean O’Brady’s goal midway through the half brought Cavan back into it following a shaky start. Bernard Gaffney was on target 10 times from frees over the hour for Cavan but on this occasion they had to bow to a stronger opposition.
Donegal made it two wins from two to qualify for the semi-finals after they saw off the challenge of Warwickshire at Letterkenny by 0-21 points to 2-9.
The Northerners bossed the opening half and led by 0-12 points to 0-3 at the break, chiefly through some outstanding forward play typified by Lee Henderson who finished with seven points.
Jamesy Donnelly was another who shone and he racked up 0-3 points while Michael McCann, Sean McVeigh, Enda McDermott, Niall Campbell and Stephen Boyle all scored 0-2 points each.
In the final game, Longford trounced South Down at Pearse Park by 5-12 to 1-13.
