Murphy to captain Wexford footballers

Wexford manager Jason Ryan has installed centre-back David Murphy as the county's captain for the upcoming Leinster and All-Ireland Championships.

The 28-year-old Murphy, who works as a fund accountant, has been a regular member of the Wexford panel since first donning the jersey in 1999.

A joint winner of the Wexford Supporters Club's Footballer of the Year award in 2002, he played midfield for his club, St. Mary's Rosslare, when they lost to Glynn-Barntown in last year's Wexford IFC final.

Murphy and his Wexford team-mates narrowly missed out on promotion from NFL Division 3 recently, securing five wins in their seven matches.

Ryan's charges will take on the might of defending champions Dublin in a mouth-watering Leinster SFC quarter-final on June 13.
