Browne back for Waterford

The Waterford Senior Hurling panel have received a timely boost ahead of this Sunday's Round 5 NHL clash with Tipperary with the news that veteran player Tony Browne has returned to the Deise's squad.

The Mount Sion clubman returned to county training last night, after he was among a number of players who were handed an extended break by manager Davy Fitzgerald following last year's Championship.

Although Browne is back in the panel it is unlikely he will feature in this weekend's clash with the Premier County at Semple Stadium.

It is expected that the 36-year old will instead play a part in Waterford's tie against Offaly at Fraher Field in the following round.

This year will see Browne involved with the Waterford Senior hurlers for a record 19th campaign, which has seen him claimed three Munster titles, one NHL title and three All-Stars.

Michael 'Brick' Walsh is still ruled out with a broken arm, and this may open up a starting role for Browne at centre-back against the Midlanders.

Another of Waterford's 'rested' players is also expected to make a return to training in the coming week.

Browne's club and county colleague Ken McGrath is primed to come back to the Waterford panel next week.

This will give Fitzgerald a full-strength squad to choose from ahead of their Munster Championship semi-final against Clare on June 7 at Semple Stadium.
