National Football League: Division 4 round up

Clare, Wicklow and Carlow impressed as they all delivered victories in Division 4 of the Allianz National Football League today.

There was an early afternoon throw-in for the meeting of Clare and London at Ruislip.

Despite Banner County manager Michael McDermott also having his sights on Wednesday's All-Ireland club final with Kilmurry-Ibrickane, Clare emerged as comfortable 1-19 to 1-8 winners.

The visitors led by 1-11 to 1-6 at half-time, with Alan Clohessy netting their goal. Derek Hayden kept the hosts in touch with a goal for Noel Dunning's London side, but Clare turned on the style in the second half.

David Tubridy and David Russell were among those who claimed excellent points in the closing 35 minutes as Clare cantered home.

At Pearse Park, Wicklow withstood a late rally from hosts Longford to win out on a 2-9 to 1-11 scoreline.

Longford led by 0-6 to 0-3 at the interval, but Seanie Furlong and Leighton Glynn helped to turned the game in Wicklow's favour by both claiming vital second half goals.

Longford's goal came 11 minutes from the end from the returning David Barden. However, not even Barden's goal or Francis McGee's eight-point haul could prevent Wicklow from grabbing the two league points.

Meanwhile, Carlow romped to a 2-19 to 0-8 win over Kilkenny at Dr Cullen Park.

A 22nd minute goal from John Murphy had seen Carlow establish a 1-13 to 0-2 half-time lead.
