National Football League: Division 3 round up
Antrim maintained their unbeaten run as Sligo and Louth also recorded victories in Division 3 of the National Football League this afternoon.
At Dr Hyde Park, Paddy Cunningham top-scored with nine points as Antrim registered a 0-16 to 0-14 win over Roscommon.
The Saffrons burst out of the blocks and led by 0-5 to 0-0 after 12 minutes, but Roscommon quickly staged a comeback.
Donie Shine (0-8) and Ger Heneghan kept Roscommon in touch, but scores from Cunningam, Ciaran Close and James Loughrey gave Antrim a 0-9 to 0-6 interval lead.
Shine was unerring from placed balls as Roscommon cut the gap to two points late on.
However, the Rossies failed to get the goal they needed as Antrim held out for their fourth win of the league run.
Sligo made a strong second half comeback to finish 0-12 to 0-11 winners over Offaly at Markievicz Park.
Niall McNamee edged Offaly into a 0-6 to 0-4 lead after 22 minutes, but scores from David Kelly, Tony Taylor and Mark Breheny saw Sligo claim a 0-8 to 0-7 half-time advantage.
Offaly managed to level the tie at 0-10 apiece, but Sligo were inspired following the introduction of veteran player Eamon O'Hara.
Ken Sweeney added a point late on to push Sligo into a two-point lead, and although Offaly took the last score the hosts stood firm for an encouraging win.
At Brewster Park in Enniskillen, goals from JP Rooney and Shane Lennon were the catalyst as Louth took a 2-11 to 0-10 victory over Fermanagh.
JP Rooney's goal gave Peter Fitzpatrick's side a 1-4 to 0-5 lead at half-time. Scores from James Sherry, Ciaran Flaherty and Matthew Keenan kept Fermanagh in touch, but they were firmly on the backfoot on the restart.
Fermanagh were dealt a major blow with the dismissal of Ciaran McElory at the end of the third quarter as Louth capitalised.
The visitors pushed 1-11 to 0-8 clear with 11 minutes remaining, and Lennon netted his side's second goal soon after.
