Louth fightback falls short as Sligo triumph

SLIGO 1-17 LOUTH 2-10

NFL DIVISION 3

Louth overturned a seven-point deficit but still fell short against a Sligo side that triumphed on a 1-17 to 2-10 at Markievicz Park.

The hosts led by 1-9 to 0-6 at the break with Adrian Marren (1-4) netting their goal, but only added five points to their tally on the restart.

A brace of second half goals spurred Peter Fitzpatrick's Louth side into life as the hosts came under increased pressure.

Colm Judge netted Louth's first goal in the 51st minute, and with JP Rooney converting from the penalty spot, the visitors foraged into a late lead.

Louth looked poised for an away win after Sligo were reduced to 14 men in the 56th minute. Marren saw red for an off-the-ball incident.

However, the Kevin Walsh-managed Sligo played out of their skins in the closing stages with late scores from Stephen Coen and Jonathan Davey driving them to a gutsy win.
