Deise overcome Exiles
WATERFORD 1-16 LONDON 0-8
NFL DIVISION 4
Waterford's rise under John Owens continued at Fraher Field in Dungarvan today as the Deise claimed a comfortable 11-point win over London despite the dismissal of Michael Aherne.
The hosts may have had plenty to spare at the finish, but the Exiles opened the scoring with an early Pauric Whelan point.
Conor McGrath equalised with a seventh minute point, but a trio of London points ensured the visitors led by 0-4 to 0-1 in the 23rd minute.
Waterford claimed the lead for the first time with two minutes to go in the opening half, thanks to four points in quick succession.
Michael Donnelly aided Waterford's comeback with two excellent points, but London were still well in contention for victory.
A goal from full-forward Robert Aherne put Waterford 1-8 to 0-5 ahead, but London were unable to show some of the attacking spirit which saw them take some fine scores in the opening half.
Waterford continued to add to their tally with Aherne among those on target as the Deise enter the NFL two-week break in joint second spot in Division 4.
