Wexford win hard-fought Leinster derby

Jason Ryan's Wexford side withstood a late Offaly rally to take a hard-earned NFL Division 3 victory in a hard-fought Leinster derby at Wexford Park.

Offaly hit 1-3 without reply in the closing five minutes, including an Alan Lynam goal, but still came up short against a hard-working home side.

An Adrian Flynn goal pushed Wexford to a 1-3 to 0-1 lead after 15 minutes, however Offaly rallied.

Tom Cribben's men put the Wexford rearguard under pressure, with David Egan capitalising on a defensive error by Adrian Morrissey as the ball was scrambled into the Model County net.

With Niall McNamee (0-6, 0-5f) and John Reynolds (0-3) also adding points, the gap was cut to 1-6 to 1-4 at the interval.

Nonetheless, Wexford opened up a 1-14 to 1-7 lead on the restart, and despite Offaly battling back, the visitors fell short by the smallest of margins.
