Dubs get past Wexford to make Walsh Cup final

Anthony Daly's charges had four points to spare as 13-man Dublin advanced to the Walsh Cup decider following a hard-earned 2-17 to 2-13 victory over Wexford at Gorey this afternoon.

The visitors had both John McCaffrey and John Kelly dismissed following second yellow cards, but had enough in resolve to book a place in the final.

Former Dublin senior footballer Shane Ryan claimed the opening goal for the Metropolitans as they carved out an early 1-1 to 0-2 lead.

McCaffrey landed three points from '65s for Dublin, with Diarmuid Lyng keeping Wexford in touch.

However Dublin held the upper hand at half-time, leading by 1-9 to 0-8, following a fine sideline cut from Alan McCrabbe.

The Dubs had to contend with the third quarter dismissals of McCaffrey and Kelly, as Wexford launched a strong comeback.

Colm Bonnar's home side cut the deficit to three points as they fired a brace of second half goals. Lyng netted from a free while Jim Berry blasted his way through the Dubs' defence to add another goal.

But, with Ronan Fallon among those performing strongly for the visitors in the closing stages, Dublin were able to hold on for a deserved victory.
