Donegal edge tight semi-final clash

Donegal 1-13 Down 1-12

Donegal remain on course to retain the Dr McKenna Cup after seeing off Down in tonight's semi-final in Enniskillen.

An impressive eight-minute spell, during which John Joe Doherty's charges scored five points, helped the holders win through on a 1-13 to 1-12 scoreline.

Late points from Danny Hughes and the Clarke brothers, John and Martin, cut the gap to a single point but time ran out on Down's comeback charge.

The two goals arrived in the first half at the end of which Down led by 1-5 to 1-4, with Paul McComiskey landing a late free.

An error from Donegal goalkeeper Lee McFadden had given McComiskey enough time and space to find the net after just two minutes' play.

But the Tir Chonaill men recovered from that early setback, and a slip in the Down defence allowed Edward Kelly nip in for his side's only goal.
