Dubs and Royals have to do it all again
Dublin 2-15 Meath 1-18 (after extra-time)
Dublin and Meath will meet again in the O'Byrne Cup at Pairc Tailteann under floodlights on Wednesday night after their first clash produced a 2-15 to 1-18 draw at Parnell Park this afternoon.
Meath burst out of the blocks early on when Jamie Queeney was to the fore for the visitors who led by 0-8 to 0-6 at half-time in normal time.
However, Dublin could have led at the break but for a goal miss by Dean Rock from 13 metres out late in the half.
Meath continued to show great initiative in front of the posts on the restart with two Queeney points pushing the Royals into a 0-10 to 0-7 lead.
The Dubs responded well as a Kevin McManamon goal, allied to a Bernard Brogan point, pushing Pat Gilroy's charges 1-8 to 0-10 in front as the game entered the final quarter.
But points from Gavin Reilly, Stephen and David Bray saw the lead change hands again before Gilroy's men claimed the lead three minutes into injury-time.
Queeney again showed great composure to slot over the equalising point and send the game to extra-time.
The sides swapped points in the early stages of extra-time with Queeney and Henry on target before a brace of Bernard Brogan points and a second McManamon goal handed Dublin a 2-13 to 0-15 lead to take into the break.
But Meath failed to lie down as a Joe Sheridan goal brought Eamon O'Brien's side right back into contention on the restart.
Meath looked to have stolen victory with a late Queeney point, but substitute Colin Daly stood tall for Dublin with his late equaliser ensuring a replay in midweek.
