The Waterford hurlers got their 2010 campaign off to a winning start as they ran out comfortable 1-26 to 1-11 winners over Cork IT.

Davy Fitzgerald's side bossed the second half of this Waterford Crystal Cup opening round game at Kilmacthomas, having led by 0-13 to 1-8 at half-time.

Jamie Nagle and Shane Casey both pointed before Thomas Ryan grabbed the Deise's only goal. Maurice Shanahan, who was involved in a lot of good work, Shane Walsh and Eoin Kelly added further points to extend the hosts' lead out to 15 points by the finish.

Kevin Moran, teed up by a Casey pass, almost nabbed a second goal for Fitzgerald's men, but Cork IT goalkeeper Conor Cusack was equal to the shot.

Waterford will take on IT Tralee at Ballyduff Upper next Sunday at the quarter-final stage the Munster competition.
