LAOIS SHC FINAL: Clough/Ballacolla 2-13 Portlaoise 1-10

Two-goal hero Willie Hyland was instrumental as Clough-Ballacolla claimed their first ever Laois SHC title at O'Moore Park in Portlaoise today.

The Laois senior star top-scored with 2-3 in a game which saw his side's greater hunger come to the fore as they withstood a determined Portlaoise comeback.

Clough-Ballacolla powered into a 1-2 to 0-0 lead after five minutes of this game, with Hyland's early goal backed up by two Mick Dunphy points.

Raymie Ryan's charges were by far the more accomplished outfit in the opening half and held a deserved 2-8 to 0-5 interval lead.

Portlaoise half-forward Teddy Fennelly cut the gap to seven points with his 57th minute goal, but a string of excellent saves from goalkeeper Danny Hanlon ensured Clough-Ballacolla held out for victory.
