Cork crowned Junior Football champions
Cork 0-15 Roscommon 0-12
Cork overtook Kerry at the top of the All-Ireland Junior Football Championship roll of honour at O'Moore Park today, beating Roscommon to secure their 15th title at this grade.
Cork manager Mossie Barrett will have certainly been pleased with his side's display, as the Munster champions remained clinical throughout and were more effective in front of the posts than the westerners.
Roscommon, eager to bounce back from last year's All-Ireland final loss to Dublin at the same venue, began in determined fashion.
It was Cork's five-point streak between the 18th and 26th minutes which provided the springboard for their eventual three-point win.
Playing against the wind in the opening half, the Rebels led by 0-8 to 0-4 at the interval with full-forward Robert O'Mahony scoring four points.
O'Mahony and half-forward Daniel O'Donovan were the biggest threats to the Roscommon rearguard as the game wore on.
Michael Jordan's Roscommon side had a superb display from midfielder Martin Reynolds, who kept his side in contention with some excellent fielding.
Although into the elements in the second half, Roscommon bounced back on the restart thanks to the good work of substitute Thomas Mahon.
The Rossies made a real game of it in the closing 30 minutes, but O'Mahony and O'Donovan were always dangerous as the Rebels claimed the silverware.
