Jubilant Fingal celebrate rare win

Fingal 1-18 Monaghan 2-13 (aet)

A strong showing in the second half of extra-time earned Fingal a place in the Nicky Rackard Cup quarter-finals after this thrilling encounter at Clones.

Free-taker Emmet McCabe was in outstanding form for the visitors, as the Dublin outfit held Monaghan to just one point in the second period of extra-time.

McCabe top-scored with 1-4, netting his goal during this period as Fingal outscored Monaghan by 1-4 to 0-1.

In a keenly-contested encounter, these sides were well matched with Monaghan edging the lead at half-time of normal time by 1-5 to 0-6, with Stephen Lambe netting the hosts' goal.

Nothing could separate them in the second half though - they were tied at the end of normal time at 1-10 to 0-13.

A Ray Lee goal edged Monagahan into a 2-12 to 0-14 advantage at half-time in extra-time, but Fingal shined on the restart.

A Lambe point was the Farney men's only score for the remainder of the game, as McCabe inspired Fingal into the next round.
