Waterford and Antrim win in Division 4

WATERFORD 1-7 CARLOW 0-6

Waterford's promotion hopes were kept alive as a determined performance from the Decies earned them their fourth win of Division 4 of the NFL thanks to a four-point victory over visitors Carlow at Fraher Field.

John Kiely's charges made a robust finish to this game with a 62nd-minute goal from Liam O'Lionain paving the way for victory.

O'Lionain bagged two goals in the previous round against Leitrim but failed to start this game because of injury and the late second half substitute provided the inspiration for victory once again.

However Waterford did not have it all their own way in this game with Carlow holding a 0-05 to 0-03 interval lead.

Carlow maintained their lead on the restart and it was not until O'Lionain's goal that Waterford sprung to life with points from Cillian O'Keefe and Shane Brick in injury time helping to close out victory.

ANTRIM 1-11 SLIGO 0-9

Paddy Cunningham scored the only goal of the game as Antrim beat their NFL Division 4 title rivals Sligo in a lively contest at Casement Park tonight.

Cunningham bulged the net moments before half-time as the Saffrons took a 1-6 to 0-5 lead into the break.

Sligo had plenty of opportunities to grab a goal of their own but their decision-making and shooting let them down.

The Connacht side did close the gap significantly by scoring four points in-a-row, but Antrim had the stronger finish.
