McCarthy resignation confirmed
Gerald McCarthy has resigned as the manager of the Cork senior hurling team tonight.
In a statement read out by county chairman Jerry O'Sullivan at a special meeting of the Co board and clubs, McCarthy said that he was not resigning for the good of Cork hurling and even described it as detrimental to the long-term good of the sport in Cork.
The statement revealed that he had received threats to his life and that his family had said that it was not worth staying on, while also alleging that senior players had told others not to attend his mother's funeral.
