Gaffney gets the points for Armagh

Armagh 1-13 Kildare 1-12

A last-gasp point from Ryan Gaffney secured two valuable league points for Armagh as they scored a tight win over Kildare at the Athletic Grounds.

Armagh began this game in bright fashion thanks to an early Declan Coulter goal but Kildare steadied the ships and thanks to scores from Paul Fitzgerald and Niall Ó Maonachan, the visitors held a 1-7 to 1-5 interval lead.

Two further points from Fitzgerald and a Paul Divilly score ensured Andy Comerford's charges took a 1-10 to 1-6 lead by the 46th minute.

But the switch of Coulter to full-forward in place of Ryan Gaffney turned the game in favour of the hosts.

The sides were level at 1-11 apiece thanks to a brace of scores each from Coulter and Paul McCormack and the small attendance was set for a frantic finish.

Two minutes later Coulter took another point from the right wing and although Kildare equalised, Gaffney dashed down the left wing ahead of former Tipperary player David Kennedy and cut inside to take what ultimately proved to be the match-winning score.
