Waterford hold on for close win against UCC

Waterford 1-17 UCC 2-13, Ardmore

An experimental Waterford side edged out UCC in a lively Waterford Crystal Cup encounter at Ardmore.

Gary Hurney's first half goal helped the hosts to a 1-11 to 0-06 half-time lead, but UCC staged a tremendous second half comeback.

Goals from goalkeeper Anthony Nash (free) and Stephen Moylan in the closing stages left just two points between the sides in injury-time.

UCC piled on pressure with free-taker David Browne (0-08) cutting the gap to a point, however Waterford held on to make the next round.
