Griffin the star for Donegal

UUJ 0-13 Donegal 3-14

Stephen Griffin scored 1-07 for Donegal in their Gaelic Life Dr McKenna Cup opener at Ballybofey today.

Griffin, a championship debutant last year, sandwiched a second half penalty in between goals from Donegal captain Brian Roper and Ross Wherrity.

UUJ were only 0-09 to 0-05 behind at half-time, but despite the best efforts of top-scorer Ciaran Donnelly, who kicked eight frees, the students were second best.

Paddy McDaid saw yellow for Donegal, while UUJ duo Stephen McAleer and Kieran Nolan were also 'sent off' and replaced.
