Deegan to referee football final
Laois man Maurice Deegan has been chosen to referee the upcoming All-Ireland Senior Football final between Kerry and Tyrone on Sunday, September 21.
Deegan, who refereed the 2005 All-Ireland minor final, was confirmed today as the man in the middle for this year's senior decider at Croke Park.
The Central Referees Appointment Control Committee of the GAA announced his appointment and that of Clare's Rory Hickey to the upcoming All-Ireland minor football final.
Deegan has refereed Kerry already in this year's championship, taking charge of their memorable qualifier win over Monaghan. He has not taken charge of a match involving Tyrone.
The Stradbally man's consistent performances have been rewarded with this high profile appointment.
However, he did draw criticism from Meath manager Colm Coyle for his handling of the Royals' Leinster championship defeat to Wexford in June.
