Late O'Brien free puts Monaghan through

A late pointed free from Monaghan top scorer Bernard O'Brien ensured victory for his side over Donegal at Clones.

There was confusion at the full-time whistle with referee Brendan Sweeney feeling that Donegal had recorded a one-point win.

However, this mistake was quickly resolved.

Monaghan dominated the opening quarter and led by 0-05 to 0-01 after 10 minutes, but only led by the minimum at the break, after Donegal goalkeeper Michael Scanlon pulled off a fine save from a Mike Greaney shot.

Donegal hit the net through top-scorer Kevin Campbell (1-08) on the restart but the hosts dug deep to keep ahead.
