McGuire to miss SFC opener against London

Sligo's team captain Noel McGuire won't be fit in time for his county's Connacht SFC opener against London on May 25.

McGuire dislocated his elbow playing for his club Easkey in a Sligo Division 1 league game against Curry last Saturday, a game which his side lost by five points.

Defender McGuire led Sligo to their first Connacht title since 1975 last July, but joins the injury list as the championship draws nearer. And with key forward Paul Taylor and his brother Thomas both long term absentees, Sligo boss Tommy Jordan is still keeping an open mind on his likely championship side.

McGuire is hoping to return for the Connacht semi-final pending a Sligo win against London, and Jordan insists that he is not thinking about a change of captain for the championship just yet.

"Obviously Noel is our captain at the moment and he would be a big loss to us, but we'll hold out on the extent of his injury - the captaincy isn't an issue at the minute,"

Sligo have it all do this year with the team's disappointing league campaign ending in relegation to Division 4.
