Galway soar into top spot after Derry win

Galway 3-9 Derry 0-13, Pearse Stadium

Galway are out on their own at the top of the Division 1 table after seeing off Derry at Pearse Stadium this afternoon.

The Tribesmen's fourth league win was topped off by goals from Michael Meehan (18 minutes), Padraic Joyce (48) and Matthew Clancy (63).

With Paddy Bradley subdued, Derry trailed by 1-05 to 0-05 at half-time. Meehan dispatched a precise penalty after a foul on Fiachra Breathnach.

The visitors kept competitive with points from James Conway and Conleith Gilligan.

But Joyce's superb strike, after being put into space by Meehan and Clancy's clever finish under Derry goalkeeper John deighan saw Galway home and hosed.
