McDonnell gets Armagh job

Peter McDonnell has been selected to replace Joe Kernan as manager of the Armagh senior football team.

McDonnell was officially appointed by the Armagh County Board last night after he beat off his main rivals for the vacant post, Paul Grimley and Michael McConville.

McDonnell boasts plenty of club level experience having guided Mullaghbawn and Errigal Ciaran to Ulster club titles in 1995 and 2000 respectively, while he also helped the Armagh Under-21s to provincial success this year.

He is likely to bring a number of his U-21 players through to the senior set-up with the prospect of some of Armagh's 2002 All-Ireland winning team, incdluding captain Kieran McGeeney, calling time on their inter-county careers.
