Cork call on Goulding for semi-final

James Masters' place in the Cork team to play Meath in Sunday's All-Ireland SFC semi-final (Croke Park, throw-in 3.30pm) has gone to All-Ireland Under-21 winner Daniel Goulding.

Masters, who is still the top scorer (3-27) in the 2007 championship, suffered a hairline fracture of his jaw in the quarter-final win over Sligo and is a considerable loss for the Rebels.

Eire Óg clubman Goulding comes in for him at right corner forward in the only change manager Billy Morgan has made to the side that saw off Sligo by 1-11 to 0-8.

John Miskella, who scored Cork's goal last time out, retains his place in the half-forwards and the 6ft 7in Michael Cussen will once again start as a target man at full-forward.

There is one change in the substitutes - with Paddy O'Shea ruled out due to injury, All-Ireland winning junior goalkeeper Kieran Murphy steps in as Alan Quirke's deputy.

This is Cork's third successive All-Ireland semi-final at senior level and they are bidding to reach the final for the first time since 1999. Morgan has led Cork to 10 semi-finals so far since taking over for his first stint as Cork manager in 1986.

The counties have met six times in the championship - all in All-Ireland finals - with Meath winning four times, Cork just once and there was also a draw in 1988. They last met in the 1999 All-Ireland final which Meath won by 1-11 to 1-8.
