Burke, who lined out at left corner back in the 2-10 to 0-9 victory in Salthill, did an excellent man-marking job on Conor Mortimer and succeeded in keeping one of Mayo's most potent forwards scoreless from play.

The Corofin defender will collect his award at the Connacht GAA Writers' end of season function in Castlebar's TF Royal Theatre and Hotel, where he could be in the running for the Michael McDonnell award for Personality of the Year.

Meanwhile, Galway manager Peter Ford is expected to confirm his team for Sunday's Connacht semi-final showdown with Leitrim after training tomorrow night.
