Ciaran Whelan has got the nod to start for Dublin in Sunday's Leinster SFC quarter-final against Meath at Croke Park, throw-in 4pm.

There were fears that the big Raheny midfielder could miss the game, due to a dislocating his finger at a training session last Saturday.

But the injury was not as serious as first feared and he joins Darren Magee in a strong-looking midfield.

In all, Dublin boss Paul Caffrey has made four changes to the side that lost last year's All-Ireland quarter-final to Mayo for this weekend's renewal of rivalries with the Royals.

There are two championship debutants in Ross McConnell, who is stationed at full-back, and Diarmuid Connolly, who will start at left half-forward.

Coman Goggins, Kevin Bonner, Jason Sherlock and Ray Cosgrove are the four players to be replaced from the Mayo game, with McConnell, Connolly, Darren Magee and team captain Colin Moran gaining starts.

Sherlock is expected to be sidelined for some time with a thumb injury.

The winners of Sunday's encounter will face Offaly or Carlow in the provincial semi-finals. Dublin, the reigning Leinster champions, and Meath have met 54 times in the championship with the Dubs boasting 29 wins to Meath's 18 (there have been seven draws).

But the score stands at 5-5 in the counties' last ten championship clashes, extending back to the third replay in that memorable four-match first round saga in 1991.
