Mortimer, Brady to be fit for Mayo's championship opener

David Brady and Trevor Mortimer, who both missed last Sunday's NFL Division One final against Donegal, will be in Mayo manager John O'Mahony's plans for next month's Connacht championship clash against Galway.

The pair are expected to be fit to play for the Connacht champions in the first match of their title defence on May 20.

Midfielder Brady has been nursing calf and quad muscle knocks in recent weeks, while versatile attacker Mortimer is eyeing a return after a long period out with a metatarsal injury.

However, the news concerning Castlebar Mitchels clubman Barry Moran is not good. The young midfielder is facing an eight-week lay-off after he damaged his ankle ligaments at the weekend.

He had to be stretchered off during Mayo's All-Ireland Under-21 semi-final defeat to Laois.

While the league ended on a disappointing note for O'Mahony's senior side, they will have an immediate chance to tune up for the Galway clash when they take on Clare in a challenge match this Sunday.

Mayo are set to test themselves against Páidi O'Sé's Banner outfit in Parke on Sunday afternoon (throw-in 3.30pm).

The match will be preceded by the meeting of Parke and the Mayo over-40s team - both ties are being held to mark the opening of the Parke club's new stand, which is decidated to the memory of club stalwart Jimmy McHugh who sadly passed away in 1996.
