Kevin O'Reilly will play no part in the Dublin senior hurling team's plans for this summer after receiving confirmation of a cruciate ligament tear injury.

The Lucan Sarsfields forward sustained the injury in the Dubs' final game of the National Hurling League against Tipperary, earlier this month.

Results from a subsequent MRI scan have confirmed that the player, who finished as the Metropolitans' top scorer in the league with 1-19, will miss the entire championship campaign. He is set to be sidelined for at least six months.

Dublin face Wexford in the Leinster SHC semi-final on June 9 and an in-form O'Reilly was thought to be vital to their chances of causing an upset.

He was also part of this year's Dublin Under-21 panel.
