Mortimer takes Connacht gong

Mayo sharpshooter Conor Mortimer has received a boost ahead of Sunday's NFL Division One semi-final by being voted the Connacht GAA Writers' Personality of the Month for March.

The 24-year-old Mortimer has led the Mayo forward line with aplomb, shooting 1-4 and 0-7 respectively in their league wins over Cork and Fermanagh last month.

The Shrule-Glencorrib clubman will hope to have a big part to play at Croke Park on Sunday when Mayo look to continue their hunt for a first NFL title since 2001.

A 2006 All-Star, Mortimer finished as last year's top scorer in the All-Ireland championship with 1-32.

He will receive his award, alongside the other monthly winners, at a special function in the TF Royal Theatre and Hotel, Castlebar, when the season is over.

The function will also include the announcement of the winner of the Michael McDonnell award for the Personality of the Year.
