Offaly deny Waterford semi-final spot

Waterford 1-19 Offaly 3-15

Waterford saw a Division One semi-final spot slip from their grasp as Joe Bergin inspired Offaly to victory at Walsh Park.

The Deise, who topped Division 1A before the throw-in, will have to go through the quarter-final route after today's result.

In front of a large crowd, goals from Bergin (penalty) and Gary Hanniffy gave Offaly a 2-8 to 0-9 lead at half-time.

Eoin Kelly (0-6) led Waterford's scoring in the opening half.

Wind-assisted Waterford came back into contention with John Mullane's 39th-minute goal.

A Ken McGrath point levelled matters but Bergin found the net again five minutes from time.
